I have recently come across a few articles referring to unusual developments for Opera; specifically, Paul McCartney writing music for operas, and revolutionary modern stage curtains like this one recently posted in FeelGuide.
L.A. based artist Pae White's revolutionary main stage curtain design for the Oslo Opera House is turning some heads. Metafoil was created by scanning images of crumpled aluminum foil which were then sent through a computer numerically-controlled loom which transformed the pixels into a massive tapestry of cotton, wool, and polyester. And, it is truly massive. (See photos below!) The individual threads are only visible from a few feet away, so the audience gets the full, suspended belief effect of a giant 3-dimensional sheet of crumpled foil.
Will Opera patrons find it a distraction? I will admit that I have never been to an opera, so have nothing to compare it to. I do think it's a wonderful work of art-technology (it makes clear that the possibilities of this technology are really endless), and I imagine I would be a bit mesmerized by it!
